A city is strongest when all residents are engaged in its civic life. However, immigrant communities face more barriers to civic participation that other groups, such as difficulty learning English, a lack of social connectivity, and misinformation about naturalization and the meaning of citizenship.
Immigrant Leadership Institute
Our Immigrant Leadership Institute is a 5-month program preparing the residents of Greater Philadelphia with the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to engage in the civic life of our city and region. LEARN MORE & REGISTER >>
ILI Seminars
We are offering seminars (mini-cohorts) that are each five weeks long, with up to 25-30 participants in each. Seminar topics are:
February 9 to March 9, 2022: Social Connections and Networking Seminar Series
Help immigrants in the process of building social capital in a new city and understanding the concept of networking in the U.S.
April 6 to May 4, 2022: Citizen and Immigrant Rights
Create a deeper understanding about citizen and immigrant rights while exploring some of the narratives that exist and how immigrant stories reframe them.
June 1 to June 29, 2022: Leadership and Civic Engagement
Explore the meaning and understanding of leadership and civic engagement in the process of building a democratic and participatory community.

Participant Advisory Council
The Participant Advisory Council serves as the voice of our key participants. As a consultative body, the role of its members is to provide the organization with insight into the needs, challenges, and opportunities to help The Welcoming Center improve the realization of our mission of promoting inclusive economic growth through immigrant integration. As part of the Philadelphia chapter of the New Americans Campaign, The Welcoming Center also connects immigrants to partner organizations for citizenship application assistance.
