We are in pain. We struggle to find the right words to express the grief and anguish we are feeling for our black and brown brothers and sisters across Philadelphia and across the United States who have endured decades of racism, institutionalized violence, discrimination, and economic exclusion.

While our city became a hub for innovation and opportunity over the past decade, opportunity has not been equally accessible to everyone. Too many people remain socially isolated and economically excluded.

As #ImmigrantHeritageMonth kicks off today, we renew our commitment to building community, expanding opportunities, and sparking the change needed for a more just and equitable society where black and brown lives are treated with dignity and respect. #BlackLivesMatter
