The Welcoming Center to honor leaders championing diversity, equity, and the inclusion of immigrants in the workforce at the 2020 Solas Awards
Highlighting the importance of immigrants in Philadelphia’s workforce
Philadelphia, PA (February 6, 2020) – Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians is pleased to announce that Angelina Branca, owner-chef of Sate Kampar and Patrick Clancy, President and CEO of Philadelphia Works, Inc., the City’s workforce development board, will be honored at its annual fundraising gala, the 2020 Solas Awards, on February 27, 2020, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
The 2020 gala will shine a light on the contributions immigrants make to Philadelphia’s workforce. “As Philadelphia continues welcoming newcomers, expanding opportunities for Philadelphia’s diverse immigrant and refugee population to participate in the workforce is crucial for growing our economic competitiveness,” said Peter Gonzales, President and CEO of the Welcoming Center. “Our 2020 Solas Awards honorees have recognized that welcoming immigrants into our workforce requires an investment from all employers, in both the public and private sectors.”
Angelina Branca will be given the Dennis Clark Solas Award for her leadership in highlighting the role of immigrants in moving America forward. In 2018, Angelina started a charity dinner series known as Muhibbah Dinners. The dinner series brings together chefs of different backgrounds and cultures to celebrate diversity and raise money for nonprofits working with immigrants and refugees.
Patrick Clancy and Philadelphia Works, Inc. (PhilaWorks) will be given the Atlas Award for Advancing Opportunity for recognizing the contributions that immigrants make to our workforce and to revitalizing and stabilizing our neighborhoods. Since the Welcoming Center’s inception, PhilaWorks has been there as a loyal supporter of the Welcoming Center’s work and has been a leader leveraging resources and cross-sector relationships to advance a thriving workforce.
Funds raised through the gala benefit the Welcoming Center’s core programs that provide critical support to immigrants and refugees in the region.
